So I headed off to Creston, Nelson and Castlegar for the long weekend. Boy, was that a mistake as far as highway travel goes! Busy busy busy! But I was on a motorcycle and passing is a breeze. Now, the first night I only made it to Banff. Big mistake, but I got a late start. So I checked out the Youth Hostel, booked solid. Checked out the Tunnel Mountain campsite, same thing. Kind of expected it. Ended up at the overflow. Which, if you have ever seen the overflow lot is a gravel lot, about 3 or 4 acres in size. Just gravel. And one bathroom. But that is not the story, the people next to me is the story. Four guys that moved to Banff a year ago from Hamilton, Ontario to work in the mountains decided to go camping. They were in their early twenties and this is an important point. They were also dopers and that is important, probably, but mostly they were drunk and stupid. Those are the casting votes! Now let's see how I determined this! First off, they lived in Banff. They were camping in a gravel pit. They lived 4 miles from here. Go home and come back on Wednesday when no one is here. Second, three of them had sleeping bags, the fourth didn't and he really wanted to go along with them and told everyone that, "I'll be okay!" (we'll see!) And finally, at five in the morning I had to go to the bathroom, so I crept out of my tent and guess who was sitting around a 6 inch fire, shuddering. I asked him, "Have you been up all night?" He replied, "Pretty much!" Now, he lives 4 miles from here, if he walked home, he would have been home by oh, say, one in the morning. It was now five in the morning! D'uh! But the next morning I headed out, getting in to BC bright and early, here's what I was looking at along the way. Animal Overpass
Scenery along the way of Highway 93 South The bike!
