      Server Tuning: Mar 2003

     Inspected and made recommendations for database tuning at the server level for Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver databases, which are all running Oracle databases on NT/2000 servers. The client was looking for machine optimisation and the consolidation of all three servers.

     Managing various eCommerce applications being used by Alberta Revenue as they attempt to consolidate web applications for Tobacco, LPG and Gasoline Exemptions, Hotel Tax and NHL Players Tax. Duties included daily maintenance, scripting (Unix) to automate all processes, troubleshooting and quality assurance implementations.

     Acted as Oracle 8i DBA on NT system that was migrated to a HP-UX Unix system.

     Re-vamped cloning process used to reproduce a production database for reporting database purposes.

     Part of a 4-member DBA team responsible for the maintenance, support and trouble-shooting of all problems that were encountered in the database/client interface, network problems, backup/recovery strategy, Unix shell scripting, database documentation and error-maintenance. Continued documentation of process changes, revisions to existing hardware or software set-up, error logs and corrective measures, instructional manuals.

Position was migrated to IBM Global who became the outsource vendor for U of A ‘s Peoplesoft environment.

   Software product testing as part of an implementation considering the use of Oracle as the database of choice. Duties included installation, database information loading (SQL*Loader), backup and recovery scenario testing, PL/SQL script implementation and testing.
