Miette Horseback Riding '07

On the Trail: yeehaw time!

So, as a general rule it seemed that Don would attempt the lead. Sometimes it was good, sometimes not so good. Here's an example of not so good. Attempting to cross a boggy area that also had a fair number of tree roots and other great foot obstacles.

So, what happens when you ask a horse to do something it is not prepared to do?

Something has to go boink! In this case it was Don's glasses and a few other odds and ends.
Granted, he did not fall off, but everything else did! Here's his glasses, recently extracted from the mud. An updated situation soon to come

Don's dirty glasses: look how thick the mud was on them!

What makes horse riding better than hiking or biking?

1. You arrive fresh and ready to set up camp
2. Along the way you actually get to look at the scenery
3. Your feet stay dry

River Crossing (actually we walked in it for a while)

What's the other good thing about horse back riding?

4. You are on an animal that can sense a bear way before you!
5. You are on an animal that is fast, very fast!

The first of many - Grizzly Bear tracks

So a couple of hours in to the ride we arrive at what is referred to as the outfitters cabin. A guy owns it, he is an outfitter with a trap line, which allowed him the opportunity to build this nice little old shack in the middle of truly, nowhere?
