South of KL is the town of Malaka (Malacca). It has historic roots as a trading center that go back well over a thousand years. It was a center of Muslim learning, a center for the spice trade, and was wanted by a veritable host of countries, most notably the Portuguese, the Dutch and the English. Canadians knew enough to not get involved in this one. So, suffice it to say that no history of Malacca will include the name of a Canadian. But I digress.... As probably the oldest city with historical significance in Malaysia, the two Warren's decided it would be appropriate to steal a Volvo and head there. We knew about the fortress, a little bit about its history and mostly about the significance that was placed on this location as a center of trading between East and West. So early on a Saturday morning we headed south and a little west to the seaport town of Malacca... Currently it has been 'nicknamed' A'Famosa, which I suppose means something like the Famous one. So here's what we found! So we went to Malaka (Malacca) to see the historic Portuguese ruins
This was the admin building at "A' Famosa", the famous Portuguese Historic Site
Bicycle rickshaws with all the flowers because of all the people coming to see the fortress
