So, now on to Duxford, home of a really big airplane museum. Primarily British planes, but hey, a plane's a plane! And this is Britain!


Fairey Swordfish III

British two-seat torpedo or three-seat spotter
Nicknamed the Stringbag, it was such a successful design that despite its rather antiquated appearance outclassed a lot of the aircraft intended to replace it, such that it served to the end of the war.






Fairey Gannet AS6

Carrier-borne anti-submarine aircraft
1955- mid 1970s
Featuring the Armstrong-Siddeley Double Mamba turboprop, which had two engines driving two contra-rotating propellers. And, it ran on kerosene!









Avro Lancaster

Most famous and most successful British heavy bomber in WWII
Responsible for over 60% of all Bomber Command's bomb tonnage throughout the entire war
