MARY ROSE is the only actual 16th century warship on display anywhere in the world. Built between 1509 and 1511, she was one of the first ships able to fire a broadside, and was a firm favourite of King Henry VIII. There is still some dispute over why she sank, like bad navigating, poor decision making, and a few others. I don't have any pictures of it because it is actually in a hermetically sealed unit being sprayed with wax so it won't shrink, warp or otherwise get damaged. It has been getting this spray wax job for the last 12 years, and will continue until 2011 or 2012, if I recall. Not much to actually take pictures of, really. But it is there. |
