Warren's London-based Adventures

HMS WARRIOR, 1860 - "As you arrive at Portsmouth Historic
Dockyard, the stunning sleek, black lines of Britain's first iron-
hulled, armoured battleship, take your breath away." And it did.
It is beautiful to look at, and it is old and beautiful! "The
pride of Queen Victoria, Warrior revolutionised warship
construction. Powered by steam and sail, she was the largest and
fastest ship of her day. Her most radical innovation was her
citadel - an armoured box housing her guns." What I did discover
was that it was able to do 10 knots on sails, 14 knots with the
steam engine, and 17 knots with both going full bore. Not bad
	almost 150 years ago!

Dingy type boat

You want to know what it takes to steer a big boat in heavy seas? This
boat had 8 wheels to turn it with. Four on the deck and another four
directly below on the upper gun deck. Total man-involvement would have
been 16 men to turn the rudder.

Four steering wheels (4 more one deck below)
