Ah, Hadleigh by the sea! Not that I really knew much about it before I came here, but that's not particularly astounding. The castle that did exist, because this is a ruin, of course, was built around 1230 by Hubert de Burgh. Unfortunately, Hubie argued with Henry III who confiscated the castle from him. Henry VIII used the castle to house his consorts, most notably Catherine of Aragon, Anne of Cleves and Catherine Parr. Enough said, it is located in a very pretty location, now look at pictures!
Yeah, a ruin! Whoopee, I know!
Not much to look at, really!
The keep. Nice blue sky, isn't it!
Lead Melting Hearth, so presumably a high temperature kiln
Innovative horse gate, middle gate swings, one person at a time
This killed me. They won't sell non-intoxicating liquor?
