So, here I am, in London, England! Flew from Edmonton to Vancouver, then back over Edmonton to London, go figure! Had to go through customs, and go figure why they do this, but all my lotion/cream type stuff had to go in to a little resealable baggie. Why? Does this stop people from wanting to blow up an airplane? No explanation. I was in the Maple Leaf lounge prior to departure in Vancouver and was talking with the lady working in there, and apparently after the Heathrow incident a few months ago they were also instructed that they had to pour the customer's drinks out of the tin cans. So low-paid waitresses could handle the coke cans, but the people flying on the aircraft weren't! And the explanation for this one? Got to Heathrow and had probably the fastest passport experience of my life, they were just sailing through customs today! No problems, took about 20 minutes for the hundred people in front of me, it was pretty efficient. But then I had to get to the hotel. My information had been that the transit would be about £13 or a taxi for £20. I had four bags of luggage at this time and opted for the taxi since I had no idea how far away the transit stations were. Yegad! £90 for a one way ride - that would be $200 CDN for those of you doing a fast conversion. And how far was I going? Oh, about 46 km. And it was legit, amazingly enough. There is a rate sheet that I was looking at. Anyway, I wasn't doing no stinkin' train and bus ordeal with 4 bags, so off I paid! Yup, that would be a $200 taxi fare!
And this was the beast I drove in
So now it is about noon on Saturday. Mustn't waste time or sunlight, right? So let's go for a walk and stretch out what pathetic muscles I might have. Turns out that there is a river/canal behind the hotel that heads towards the town of Apsley, where I wanted to go for lunch. It's pretty! As you shall see. This is where I am staying for the next two weeks
