Warren's European Vacation - Rochsburg Castle

So our first stop was at the Rochsburg Castle. This is one
that Robert had been to many times from when he was just
		kid.

Apparently the red brick that you see outlining the doors
we a volcanic ash deposit many many years ago that got
compressed over time and is now surface mined. Has been
		for centuries.

The red brick is very easy to fashion which makes it a
great selection for making decorative things and steps, as
an example that need to be carved.

Rochsburg, the view from outside

Rochsburg, front protection way, note that the windows on the right side are for the soldiers with their arrows. This was done purposely, I am told, being on the right side like this because the attackers would come in the front entrance way, over the moat and then with their shields in the right hand and sword in the right hand it was very awkward for them to actually twist and use their right arms meaningfully. Interesting, eh?

Rochsburg, inner Courtyard with 50m deep well (imagine digging that?)

Rochsburg, outer courtyard, where the horses would have been kept
