So, India, Pacific and now the South Atlantic Oceans. I'm doing okay! So I headed out on Sunday to find the reason for my humid condition. Turns out the ocean is about an hour and a half away, since msot of the roads here in Brazil seem to prefer an 80 km/hr speed limit. And tollways everywhere! Prices range from R$2.40 to R$5.60 and they hit you every 20 miles on the right roads. the ocean here, as the locals will also tell you, is dark. Murky grey in colour. Apparently if you go north, even 200 km it really picks up the blue tones and green colours that we generally associate with the tropics. I spent a good afternoon there, walked in the water (forgot my bathing suit), watched the people fishing, had a nap (it is Sunday after all!) and strolled. Not sauntering, not ambling, strolling. Always important to pick the right gait for the occasion. Saw a few gauchos, saw some mud-bogging (Brazilians are a chicken race, for what it is worth), and looked for odds and ends, souvenirs and the likes. Must be off-season because they had most of it all put away, it would appear. But I still had fun, so here's what I saw... This is what it looks like outside Porto Alegre
Graal - just for Brett
As I approached the ocean, hills arose
Apparently they are buddies!
A boat on wheels, how's that for functional
I drove right on to the beach, along with everyone else
